GRACE THROUGH FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH
TEXT: Matthew 3:13-17
THEME: Confirmation of Jesus Being the King – the Messiah by His Father
TITLE: The Sacrifice King
PROPOSTIONAL STATEMENT: The Attitude of the Lord Jesus as the Sacrifice
I. INTRODUCTION
A. The Most Reliable Confirmation of Jesus as the Promised King – the Messiah
• The genealogy, the supernatural conception, the recognition by Magi, the hatred of another king, the fulfillment of the prophesies and the message of King’s herald confirmed that Jesus is the promised King.
• But the most reliable confirmation is when God the Father introduced Jesus as His Son
B. The Picture of a Sacrifice
• Genesis 3:21 – Garments of skin (whose skin was used – animal from holy place Eden)
• Genesis 22:3-14
• Leviticus 1:3-4 ; 3:1-2; 3:3-4
• Isaiah 53 (emphasis on verse 10)
II. Body
A. The Purpose of Coming (v.13)
• Baptism was the purpose of Jesus when He came to John
• The distance was from Galilee to Bethany in Judea (John 1:28)
• Claim of one non-scriptural book (The Gospel According to the Hebrews) because His mother wanted to
• Many false teachings about Jesus Christ use His baptism to affirm their stand
o Jesus became God during baptism (Nestorianism)
o Jesus has sin or commited sins
B. The Problem (v.14)
• John’s baptism was baptism of repentance (v.11) meaning to say that those who were baptized by John were acknowledging that they had committed sins (sinners)
• The problem is John detered Jesus because He knew that Jesus committed no sin
o John knew that Jesus was the promised King
o That Jesus was sinless.
John detered the Pharisees and saducees because they were unrepentant but John detered Jesus because He hadsno sin
NOTE: If we want to prove the sinlessness of Jesus Christ, this is the most appropriate verse
C. The Purpose of Baptism (v.15)
• To fulfill all righteousness – the Will of God is to fulfill all righteousness by His Son.
• He identified Himself with the sinners
o In His Birth - shepherds
o In His Earthly Life – People of Nazareth
o In His Death – crimininals on th cross
D. The Confirmation of Jesus as the Promised King – the Messiah
• The Mode of Baptism
• The Heaven was opened – Revelation by God
o The Tabernacle
o When Stephen was stoned (7:56)
• The Picture of Trinity
o The Son
o The Holy Spirit (dove)
o The Father (the one who was speaking)
• The statement of God the Father is the expression of His love for His Son Jesus.
E. JESUS the Sacrifice King – The Attitudes of Jesus as Sacrifice
1) Willing Sacrifice
• Jesus wanted to be identified with the sinners (friend of sinners)
• Manifestation that Jesus was willing to die:
o He will do everything (righteous thing) inorder for us to be saved.
2) Pleasing Sacrifice
• The statement of John in verse 14 confirms that Jesus is a pleasing sacrifice
• The statement of God in verse 17 is an evidence that God loves so much the Son
III. CONCLUSION
The Father is willing to provide a sacrifice for His people whom He loves
The Son is willing to be the provided sacrifice
The Father was pleased to give His Son as the only sacrifice
The Son will do everything to fulfill all righteousness necessary for salvation
Challenge : How will you value the sacrifice of the Father and Jesus as sacrifice for your salvation?
