WHY WILL YOU DIE?
Ezekiel 33:10-16
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Repentance – A call to repent can be seen throughout the Scripture
• Old Testament
o Noah preached repentance
o Abraham turn from being a moonworshiper and turn to God
o Moses preached to turn away from their idols
o Joshua made the Israel to choose whether to serve the God or their idols
o The prophets preached to turn to God
• New Testament
o John the Baptist preached repentance (Matthew3:2 Mark 1:4, Luke 3:3)
o Jesus preached repentance (Matthew 4:17)
o Apostles preached repentance (Acts 2:38)
B. Definition
• Turning away from sin(180 degrees) and turning to God
• A sorrow over sin not because of the result and consequence of sin only but the fact that God’s law was violated and He is offended in every sin committed because He is a holy holy holy God
• A new perspective and relationship with sin and God
II. BODY
A. Importance of Repentance - Why God Wants Us to Repent? Why God Commanded Us to Turn Away from
Our Wickedness?
Answer: God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked (v.11)
• In Perspecitve of Man’s Sin and God’s Wrath
o Because we are bound to hell because of sins against the Holy God (Luke 13:3,5)
o Because we offend the Holy God greatly and HIs wrath is in us (Romans 1:18, Ephesians 2:3)
• In Perspecitve of Man’s Salvation and Joy of God
o Because God wants us to be saved (Isaiah 42:22)
o Because God rejoices in the repentance of man (Luke 15 – Parable Series of Repentance)
B. Defense Mechanism – Who Need Repentance?
If you think you don’t need repentance because in your personal assessment tyou are good enough to inherit eternal life and what will you show as a proof is your righteous acts, you are boasting to God
• You are a sinner
o All have sinned (Romans 3:23)
o No one is righteous (Romans 3:10)
o One act of disobedience is sin and it is enough to be condemned in hell like Adam and Eve (James 2:10)
o All the righteous act apart from faith in Jesus Christ is sin (Romans 14:23, Isaiah 64:6)
• Examining the verse for the self-righteous
o The rightousness of the righteous man will not save him when he disobeys
o The righteous man, if he sins, will not be allowed to live because of his former righteousness
o If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but then he trusts in his righteousness and does evil, none of the righteous things he has done will be remembered
o He will die for the evil he has done
If you think you are righteous and you don’t need to repent, the fire of hell is waiting for you, you will be like one of the people during the days of Noah who built an ark who mocked him and insult him and did not listen to God’s mandate to repent.
• Examining the verse of the wicked
o The wickedness of of the wicked man will not cause him to fall when he turns from it
o And if I say to the wicked man, ‘you will surely die’, but he then turn away from his sin and does what is just and right, he will surely live, he will not die
o None of the sins he has committed will be remembered against him.
o He has done what is just and right; he will surely live.
Parallel Verse: Romans 9:30-32
We do not have righteousness that will save us
In order to be saved is to have the righteousness that saves and it only be found in JESUS (2Corinthian 5:21; Romans 5:19)
o How can I have faith that will obtain righteousness of Jesus for my salvation?
o The answer: Repentance – you cannot come to Jesus with a bagful of sins
You cannot love Jesus at the same time you love your sins
You cannot be in light unless you love to be in darkness
This message is for those who want to repent and be saved.
The 3 Aspects of Repentance
1) Intellectual – Acknowledging that you are a sinner and you will die in hell
o Knowledge of sin
o Knowledge of hell and condemnation
o Knowledge that life here on earth is totally nothing if you do not have Christ
o Knowledge of God that He is holy and He hates sin
o Knowledge that you need Jesus righteousness to be justified before God and be saved
Unless you do not acknowledge you have fatal disease that will lead to death, unless you don’t acknowledge Jesus who will be your only doctor that can heal your cancer of your soul, you will never be saved
2) Emotional
o Hating sin and loving God
o You sorrow over your sin because the God whom you love is offended
o It is a new relationship with God
o It does not mean you will never sin, it means you hurt you are uncomfortable when you sin because God is offended everytime you sine.
o The Holy Spirit grieved when you sin
o And seeing your sin you committed in your Christian life brought agony to the God whom you love JESUS
3) Volitional
o When you acknowledge that you are a great sinner and the wrath of God is in your head you will star to call the name of the LORD and you will be saved
o Calling the name of the Lord is not just one moment in your life but all through your Christian life
o Pursuing a holy life that will give glory to Him
Jesus is now your Master not yourself
And whatever He wanted you to do, obey because He knows what is best for you
You will be mocked, persecuted and even be killed because of Jesus but stand on it and your soul will be secure in His hand
If you want to obey Him, if you want to give Him glory, if you want to serve Him, search His will written in the Scripture so you will know what He want.
There’s always a promises to those who love Him and obey Him.
Cried out to God call and turn to Him and be saved. He is faithful. He will save you.
For God’s Glory
