THE HOPE OF THE HEIRS

Text: Romans 8:17-25
Theme: Inheritance
Thesis: The Marks of the Heirs

I. INTRODUCTION

A. The Cliche for Hope "Habang May Buhay May Pag-asa"

  • What does this cliche pertaining to?
    • good life
    • wealth
    • good relationship
    • cars, house and lot, career
  • Ask the common people what is their hope in their life
    • Being with Christ is not on the list
    • To be like Jesus Christ is not on the list either
    • To enjoy the eternal promise of God of future glory after this life is also not on the list
B. The Problem of People Inside the Church
  • Some put their hope on the same things (worldly things)
  • The promise of God of future glory is not valued
C. The Mindset of the People of God
  • God has a promise of inheritance and it is sure.
  • They are the co-heirs of the Lord Jesus
  • The Father is pleased to give this inheritance to His people

II. BODY

Thesis: 3 Marks of the Heirs of the Blessed Hope

They are the One Who Have..

1) The Right Perspective of the Future (v.17-18)
  • There is a future blessed hope
    • that is sure because God promised this
    • that is not worth comparing to the suffering
  • Only the heirs have this kind of perspective of the future
    • they are holding on this promise of longing God
    • they value the eternal things rather than the temporal things here in earth
    • they will stand in the midst of suffering because of this hope
2) The Right Passion for Freedom (v.19-23)
  • Definition of freedom
    • freedom is not about doing what we want
    • freedom is a change of master from wicked from a good and perfect Master
  • The Creation is Groaning for Freedom
    • All creation living and non living are under cursed because of sin of the first man
    • The angels are not part of it nor the unbeliever because they don't long for freedom
      • Angels are in their position
      • Unbelievers enjoy their slavery in their sin - to them that is freedom
  • The Believers are Groaning for Freedom
    • Death is the entrance to that future hope-the inheritance of every believer
    • Since the body is subject to sinful desires, believers wanted to be free from the body like Paul
    • This is what the believers are waiting - the coming of Christ will fulfill this
    • Being absent in the body is a great gain because this is being with the Lord
    • The new body (glorified body) is the freedom and hope of every Christian
3) The Right Practice of Faith (v.24-25)
  • Hope and Faith are Inseparable Things
    • Hope is unseen
      • the future glory is unseen - that is hope of every Christian
      • that is the only legitimate hope - the hope promised by God
    • Faith is the instrument to see the unseen (Hebrews 11:1)
      • Right practice of faith will have a focus on the blessed hope
      •  Right practice of faith will stand against the sufferings because it focuses on the blessed hope.

III. CONCLUSION
  • Believers put in mind that you are the heirs of the blessed hope
  • It is a promise of God to you and He will never ever disappoint you nor frustrate you
  • The promised freedom will be at hand
  • Stand in faith that will lead you to focus on the unseen thing - OUR HOPE

STANDING IN THE MIDST OF SUFFERING

Text: Job 1:6-12
Theme : Suffering
Thesis : 3 Reminders in Time of Suffering

I. INTRODUCTION

Christians must not be surprised when sufferings will come to him because Jesus told that those who love Him and obey Him will be hated by the world. As a matter of fact a man is considered blessed when there is persecution because of Jesus Christ.
On the other hand there are Christians became fragile in the midst of suffering because they forget some important reminders for them to stand in the midst of suffering. In the life of Job, we will be reminded of God's grace in midst of suffering.

1) The Divine Proclamation

2) The Divine Protection

3) The Divine Permission

TAKEN FOR GRANTED

Text : 1Corinthians 9:24-27
Theme : Reward
Thesis : The 3 Effects on Spiritual Life of Taking the Reward for Granted

I. INTRODUCTION

  • Most of Christians take the reward which is to be given by God in the next life to come.
  • Reward is mentioned by Jesus Christ many times during His life here on earth.
  • The apostles gave stress on reward.
  • Most Christians take for granted the reward by ignoring and neglecting this wonderful thing to be received from Christ our Lord.
II. BODY

Apostle Paul gives emphasis on this matter about the worth of our service to God. Reward is the one that will move every Christian to work in God's vineyard knowing that their labor is not in vain.

The 3 Effects on Spiritual Life of Taking the Reward for Granted

1) Lack of Spiritual Direction (v.24)
  • Self - Am I a servant of God (Every Christian is a Runner)
  • Serve - Am I serving the Lord (Every Christian must Run)
  • Service - Am I in the service? (Every Christian must be in the Race)
2) Loss of Spiritual Determination (v.25)
  • Determination to Discipline  (Preparation for the Race)
  • Determination to Devotion (Practice for the Race)

3) Lead to Spiritual Disqualification (v.27)

  • Realization of the Sins of not Serving the Lord
  • Repentance of the Sins for not Serving the Lord

 III. CONCLUSION

  • If we consider ourselves as Christians we must consider ourselves as a servant who will serve in the vineyard of God knowing that there's a reward for us.
  • This reward is not just motivation but of great help as God's providence for us to continue in a life as a servants.
  • If we take for granted this reward severe consequence will happen in our spiritual life.
  • Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. 2John 8

THE IMMEASURABLE LOVE OF GOD

Text : John 3:16
Thesis : The 3 Actions of God's Immeasurable Love

The picture of the cross centers on Jesus. In this message let us find us another angle wherein the picture of the God the Father is being emphasized.

The word love here is soteriological in nature. This is not just a benevolent love of God but this is a saving love.

1) The Act of Sending

  • God the Father knew that there will be no somebody to be sent to save His people not even      angels.
  • A man must be a sacrifice but there is no qualified.
  • The only way is there must be someone to be a man who will do His will perfectly.
  • The conditions must be without sin and will do the will of the God the Father perfectly in heart, mind, and life. It demands perfect obedience.
  • Only the Son can be.
  • God the Father sent His Son through making this God the Son a man. And he became flesh (John 1:14).
  • The Act of sending is about the mission to be accomplished.
  • God the Father sends His Son for a mission - Salvation for His glory

Application : Value God's Concern to Make a Way for us to be saved

He sent His Son because we cannot be with Him. Look at the intention of God's heart that He gave the best for us to be saved

2) The Act of Sacrificing
  • When God the Father sent His Son, He knew that the Son will be a sacrifice.
  • Look at the heart of the Father who sent His Son only to die as a sacrifice.
  • Take note, the Father is the one who will make the sacrifice on behalf of His people.
  • Isaiah 53:10 - It is His (Father) will to crushed Him (Son).
  • Look at the wounded heart of God like Abraham sacrificing his son Isaac
Application :  Treasure the Act of Sacrificing

We treasure the sacrifice of the Son on the cross and we must also treasure the sacrifice of the Father looking at His Son full of the things which are abomination to His sight the sins of the people whom He will save.

3) The Act of Saving
  • God the Father saved us through His mercy only be found in Jesus whom He sent that made His heart wounded
  • There is only one way for man to be saved, it is by showing His mercy in Christ Jesus.
